Control wellbore pressure
Annular Type Blowout Preventers (BOPs) are a critical component in well control systems used in drilling operations. Unlike ram-type BOPs, which use steel rams to seal the wellbore, annular BOPs employ a flexible rubber packing element reinforced with steel segments. This packing element is compressed inward by a hydraulically operated piston, allowing it to seal around a wide variety of shapes and sizes, such as drill pipe, casing, or even an open hole. The versatility of the annular BOP makes it especially valuable during the early stages of drilling, when the exact configuration of the equipment in the wellbore can vary.

The annular BOP is typically mounted at the top of the BOP stack and can maintain a seal even when the drill string is moving or rotating slowly, which makes it useful for dynamic well control situations. Its ability to form a seal around irregular or non-standard profiles, such as tool joints or kellys, also adds to its operational flexibility. However, while annular BOPs are versatile, they are not designed to withstand the same high pressures as ram-type BOPs, and they are often used in conjunction with them for a more robust pressure control system.
All of our Annular Type BOP ‘s meet all the current API 16A requirements and can be dressed for standard or sour service application.
